Hello, Happy New Year, and welcome to another Artist Gang Tuesday! I'm Nicole Austin (aka Kinueko) and I'm excited to share with you my first video for the 2018 Artist Gang! I've created a mixed media canvas using my favorite materials and colors (I love bright colors and lots of contrast), but you can use whatever colors inspire you! I love to use a mix of fluid acrylics, high flow acrylics, spray ink, and acrylic paint pens to build up layers of color and texture. Feel free to substitute what you have, but I will list all materials I used below (and in the video description) as well.

You can really have a lot of fun building up colorful layers! Be sure to let layers dry in between before adding opposite colors to minimize any unintentional mixing. Also, add opposite colors on top of or next to each other to create dramatic contrast (red looks really bright next to blue or green, for example). Just have fun with the process. Remember, it's only paint and you can easily wipe it off or let it dry and paint right over it!

Golden Acrylic (Fluorescent Blue)

Golden Fluid Acrylic (Manganese Blue Hue, Titanium White, Teal, Anthraquinone Blue)

Golden High Flow Acrylics (Teal, Fluorescent Pink, Indigo)

Donna Downey Signature Stencils (Halftone Dots, Find Balance)

10" x 10" Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Palette Knife

Spray Inks (White, Navy)

Acrylic Paint Pens (Red, Black, Gold, Fluorescent Pink, Vivid Lime Green, Bright Aqua)

I hope you feel inspired to create a bright, layered, mixed media canvas of your own! Until next time!

I am a mixed media artist, designer and instructor from San Jose, CA (currently living in Tempe, AZ).  I believe that everyone has a unique style and desire to create and that we are born curious and creative.  Over the years, many of us are discouraged from following our creative urges but I believe it is never too late to begin (or begin again!).  My art is messy, colorful, layered and fun. I have been drawn to the creative arts since I can remember.  My first canvas was every surface in my grandma’s house: the walls, the books, underneath the marble coffee table in the dining room (she didn’t find out until years later)!  These days, I love filling up pages in my art journal with bright colors and collage paper and if I can be outside on a picnic blanket in the grass--even better!  I love inspiring others and cheering them on as they (re)discover their creative voice.
